Things Mac & Things iPhone

Things Mac & Things iPhone are task management apps created by Cultured Code and just might be my favorite apps thus far!

Both of these apps make it really easy to input the tasks you want to accomplish and the best part is they sync with one another, which makes maintaining your to do list a breeze no matter where you are.

With Things, you can tag your task items so they are categorized. I find this feature to be extremely useful for errands. Anytime I input a task that needs to be completed outside of the home, I tag it as “Errand.”

When I get ready to leave, I make certain to sync Things Mac and Things iPhone. Now I can pull up the “Errand” category on my iPhone and see only my list of errands and not the numerous other tasks I have to complete for the day.

For me, being able to check off errands as I complete them helps me to fell very accomplished. Here’s a snapshot of both my Things Mac and my Things iPhone apps with the Errand category selected:

Another favorite feature of mine is the ability to schedule a task for a particular date and even for recurring days or dates. When you do this, the task does not appear in your “Today” list until the scheduled date arrives. This helps to prevent me from becoming overwhelmed with the number of things I have to get done.

If you need to have particular documents, emails or websites handy for a task, you can drag and drop those items into the task and Things will automatically create a link to them. Here’s what it looked like when I inserted a URL for a website into my task:

I should mention that Things also supports projects. When you setup a project, you are able to view a list of all task items related to that project by clicking on that projects name. You are also able to schedule dates for each individual task so that it pops up in the “Today” section on the day you want to see it.

Learning Things is extremely simple and took me no more than 15 minutes. Culture Code has provided a brief video on their website that contains all you need to know to get started.

Things Mac costs $49.95 but they do offer a 30-day free trial. Things iPhone costs $9.99. I started out with the free trial of Things Mac just to see if it was right for me. Within 2 days, I purchased Things iPhone. This was approximately 2 months ago and I am now the proud owner of both apps.

If you have a hard time getting or staying organized, I recommend you check out Things Mac and Things iPhone. You will be amazed by the amount of stress they relieve.

You can learn more about both apps by visiting the Cultured Code website.

    Hi Erik,

As long as you have a wi-fi capable computer running Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later, it will sync. If you are having difficulties, check out this article.

  10. There is great information on this blog. I like how you put things. I’ve added the feed to my Google Reader RSS subscriptions and will give you a mentioning over at my blog. I did have an issue with how fast this page loaded. Might be an issue to fix.
