MacBook Trackpad Scrolling Speed

MACBOOK JUNKIE’S SCROLLING SPEED: FAST

The Trackpad Scrolling Speed setting allows you to adjust the speed at which you can scroll down a page or through an application when using your trackpad’s scrolling feature.

You need to first decide if you want to use the Two Fingers Scroll feature and activate it before setting your scrolling speed. If you do not want to activate Two Fingers Scroll then you do not need to adjust your scrolling speed.

If you have activated Two Fingers Scroll, follow the steps below to determine your ideal scrolling speed.

TO DETERMINE YOUR IDEAL SCROLLING SPEED:

1. Open a new web browser. (I’ll assume that because you are reading this article, you already know how to do this.)

2. Make sure both the vertical and horizontal scrollbars are present in the new web browser you opened. If you do not see both scrollbars, adjust your browser size until they appear.

3. Open the Trackpad Preferences pane.

4. Move the Scrolling Speed slider all the way over to the right so that it is set at the fastest speed.

5. Hover your mouse over the middle of the web browser you opened in Step 1.

6. Place two fingers on the trackpad. Move both fingers towards you to scroll down the page and away from you (towards your screen) to scroll back up the page. If you do not see the vertical scrollbar on the right of the browser, you will not be able to scroll up and down and need to adjust your browser size until the scrollbar appears.

7. If you are unable to control the scrolling and stop on any portion of the page you want to stop on, move the Scrolling Speed slider one notch to the left and try scrolling up and down again. If the mouse is still scrolling too fast, keep bumping the speed down one notch and testing until you are scrolling at a speed you can control with ease.

8. Now that you are comfortable with the up and down scrolling speed, test the left and right scrolling speed by hovering the mouse over the middle of the web browser and moving your fingers left and right on the trackpad. If you do not see the horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of the browser, you will not be able to scroll left and right and need to adjust your browser size until the scrollbar appears.

9. More than likely, your scrolling speed will already be set at a good level for horizontal scrolling. However, if you are unable to control the horizontal scrolling, continue bumping the scrolling speed down one notch and testing until you have the speed set at a rate that is comfortable for you.

10. If you had to adjust your browser size in order to view the scrollbars, you will probably want to readjust it back to a size you normally prefer using. Otherwise, each time you open a new browser, it will open at the size you reset it to during this procedure.

Now that you have determined your ideal Scrolling Speed, it’s time to decide if you want to activate One Finger Tap to Click or adjust any of these other trackpad settings:
