MACBOOK JUNKIE’S ONE FINGER TAP TO CLICK SETTING: ON
By default, the Mac trackpad is set so that in order to perform a single click, you have to physically press down on the trackpad. When doing this, you can actually hear and feel the trackpad being depressed.
Enabling the Trackpad One Finger Tap to Click setting configures the trackpad to accept a simple tap with one finger as a single click; thus eliminating the need to press down on the trackpad.
You can see Apple’s video example of One Finger Tap to Click by hovering over the One Finger Tap to Click option in your Trackpad Preferences Pane.
My experience with the one finger tap to click is that not only does it allow for quicker selection but also, it reduces the strain on my hand that can come with prolonged computer usage.
TO ENABLE ONE FINGER TAP TO CLICK:
1. Open the Trackpad Preferences pane.
2. Click the One Finger Tap to Click box so the checkmark appears.

TO DISABLE ONE FINGER TAP TO CLICK:
1. Open the Trackpad Preferences pane.
2. Click the One Finger Tap to Click box so the checkmark is removed.

Now that you have established your One Finger Tap to Click setting, you can decide if you want to adjust One Finger Dragging or any of these other trackpad settings:
- Tracking Speed
- Double-Click Speed
- Scrolling Speed
- One Finger Drag Lock
- One Finger Secondary Click
- Two Fingers Scroll
- Two Fingers Rotate
- Two Fingers Pinch Open & Close
- Two Fingers Screen Zoom
- Two Fingers Secondary Tap
- Three Fingers Swipe/Three Fingers Dragging
- Four Fingers Swipe Up/Down for Expose
- Four Fingers Swipe Left/Right to Switch Applications
